Someone cares

- for that special person in my life

Will you please allow me to take care of you?
Can you stop so you can rest?
Are you tired of being strong and brave,
Do you just want to be depressed?
Could I just take care of you
When you choose to walk away,
When you want to leave behind the world you built,
Could you exist from day to day?
Could I please take care of you
So you can take a break?
So you can lie down and not feel guilt
For making a mistake?
Can I come take care of you
And let your world recede?
A license to let go a while
Is perhaps what you truly need.
If I could take care of you
For just a little while
I think you might begin to feel
The prologue to a smile.
If I could take care of you
And if your life would hang around,
You'll have the time to mend yourself
Without fear of losing ground.
Could you let me take care of you?
Could you explain what you've endured?
Could you let go and close your eyes
And feel secure and rest assured?
If I did take care of you,
Could you delegate your days?
Would you lose your sense of self-esteem?
Could you sacrifice your ways?
You'll learn to trust again
And get through another day.
I'm choosing to hope
That one day you'll allow me to take care of you...
Until then I'll sport my warrior face
And defend myself against the odds
With dignity and grace.
